Denver's National Hockey League team, the Colorado Avalanche (tel. 303/405-1111 for ticket information; www.coloradoavalanche.com), plays in front of sellout crowds at the luxurious, modern Pepsi Center (Speer Blvd. and Auraria Pkwy.). The season runs from October through April. Coloradans went wild in June 1996 when the Avalanche won the revered Stanley Cup, Colorado's first championship in any major league sport. The team also won in 2001, giving the legendary Ray Bourque his first NHL championship.
